I started working on the first of two live edge Chinese Pistache (Pistachia Chinensis) slabs that will be the 8ft x 3ft desktop for my office. While I like the bark on the live edge, I don’t like it enough to keep it on the front edge of the desktop. Instead of cutting it off or grinding it off like the guy I bought the wood told e to do. I used a Shinto rasp to get the bulk of the bark off and some of the rotted wood behind it. And in the process discovered a slew of worm holes – thankfully empty. See the photos below.
The next stop is using some Kannas to start to smooth some of the edges but not all.
